Robbie, patient waiting

waiting for a transplant
For Robbie, a normal life is something that's hard to come by these days. Robbie suffers from cystic fibrosis and is one of nearly 3,000 patients who need a lung transplant, in her case, a double lung transplant.

Her lung capacity is just 26 percent. Even short walks across the street are enough to have her panting for air. So that she could devote the needed time to doctor-prescribed breathing exercises, she had to quit her job two years ago.

And still, she looks toward the future with hope. She has seen how a successful lung transplant has changed her older sister's life. Robbie's sister has now attended her daughter's wedding and enjoyed the birth of her grandchild. Robbie hopes to experience the same milestones with her own immediate family; she has her 9-year-old daughter and a husband to live for.
